PACKAGING WOOD

Packaging Wood: Resistance and Reusability

Wood is the material par excellence, it has always been used to make boxes and crates for transport. Historically, it is the oldest material because it comes directly from trees, while all other materials have been discovered over the years through scientific and technological discoveries. It is undoubtedly the most environmentally friendly material of all, assuming that the various parts of the box are not held together by adhesives or silicones. Even if it is a bad and simple material, wood is mainly used not only for transport, but also for the realization of exclusive packaging. As we know, wood-based materials convey and communicate more messages. Wood is used when you want to combine the product with an idea of ecology, nature, sustainability and simplicity and create the impression that the product is in direct contact with the earth, in harmony with nature. But it is also true that wood is often used to add value to a product. Expensive bottles of champagne or a cashmere sweater, packed in wooden packaging, get an exclusive touch. Naturapack produces packaging for food, clothing, wine and gifts, including custom-made products, and offers the possibility to customise the packaging by adding the brand and colours. The wooden boxes consist mainly of large-sized, durable transport boxes for air and sea transport. Wood is a noble and inexpensive material that can be used in many ways.

OSB and Wood

Wooden crates for transport are the safest way to store products and goods. Naturapack supplies wooden crates for sea, air and land transport. The wooden crates are very durable and safe, you can adjust the dimensions according to your needs. If you want to save money and the product to be transported is not particularly sensitive, it is better to choose wooden boxes. Wooden boxes have the function of being more resistant than cardboard boxes and can hold the various products to be transported together in one piece so as not to have to produce many small cardboard boxes. For not too large transports it is possible to use OSB boxes (Oriented Strand Board). This is a construction board made of wood flakes, which is held together by a synthetic resin and which is then pressed together by joining the different layers. OSB boards are usually made of spruce and pine wood. OSB boards are also used in the construction industry for the structure of the environment or for insulation.

Plywood

Both plywood and MDF are wood-based materials and consist of layers of overlapping material. Plywood is a semi-finished product consisting of very thin layers of peeled wood that are glued together and overlapped by crossing the veins to give the plywood greater strength and robustness. Softwoods such as fir, birch and poplar are used to make a series product, while beech, oak, teak and walnut are used to make a top-quality material intended for the manufacture of various types of furniture and furnishings.

MDF

MDF is a medium density fibreboard made of wood. As with plywood, pieces of wood are used, but they can be of any shape and origin, including waste wood. Instead of gluing in layers, the wood is debarked, shredded, cleaned and finally refined. After this stage, the “joint” is ready to be reduced to fibres either in the dry process (by drying the fibres) or in the wet process (by felting the fibres). In both cases, the resulting compound is pressed and layered.
